A solar water pump replaces diesel with sunlight for irrigation and drinking water. Sizing depends on three numbers: total head (well depth plus pipe rise), the daily water volume you need, and the hours of good sun.
As a rule of thumb in Ghazni, a 3 kW array drives a submersible pump lifting from 60–80 metres and delivering enough water for two to four hectares of vegetables. A 7.5 kW array handles deeper wells or larger fields.
Solar pumps need no fuel and almost no maintenance, but the array must be cleaned regularly — dust in the growing season can cut output by 20%.
Most farms we work with recover the system cost within one to two irrigation seasons compared with diesel pumping.
